Ahead of the release, later this year, of Canada Post’s stamp to honour the Vancouver Asahi, Historica Canada is today releasing their latest Heritage Minute, also celebrating the storied baseball team.
The production, by Vancouver-based Point Blank Creative, will be the first Heritage Minute to be issued in English, French, and Japanese.
The Heritage Minute was created with input from from the National Association of Japanese Canadians, the Nikkei National Museum, the Tashme Historical Society, and authors Pat Adachi and Joy Kogawa, who also provided voiceover. 97-year-old Kaye Kaminishi, the last surviving member of the team, also took part.
The short piece was filmed in Vancouver and at the site of the Tashme internment camp.
