NAJC offers our congratulations to our fomer president Terumi Kuwada

The National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) offers our congratulations to Terumi Kuwada, a former NAJC president, who was named to the Order of Manitoba in a ceremony at the Manitoba Legislative Building on Thursday, July 20, 2023.

A retired social worker and dedicated community volunteer, Terumi Kuwada has been a strong advocate in the areas of human rights and social justice for more than 35 years.

Her long-standing commitment to human rights and promoting respect and understanding between ethnic groups is illustrated through her work with many organizations including United Way Winnipeg, National Association of Japanese Canadians, Manitoba Japanese Canadian Citizens Association, Islamic Social Services Association, Folk Arts Council of Winnipeg, Manitoba Law Foundation, Canadian Japanese Mennonite Scholarship Committee, Lanterns for Peace ceremony, and other not-for-profit organizations.

We are so pleased that Terumi’s years of dedication and selfless giving of her skills and time have been officially recognized by the Province of Manitoba.

NAJC has been a beneficiary of Terumi’s good work for the community. We see her community spirit is reflected in her favourite quote from Margaret Mead, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.”
