June 20th is the International Day of Nikkei. The day was declared at the 59th Convention of Nikkei & Japanese Abroad held in Hawaii to promote collaboration among Nikkei around the world. June 20, 1868 is the day that the “Gannenmono” the first immigrants from Japan landed in Hawaii.
Nikkei commonly refers to people of Japanese ancestry who are living abroad.
