NAJC Update

To the members of the National Association of Japanese Canadians, we would like to give you this update on things that have transpired over the past month.

We have reinitiated the NAJC Newsletter and draw your attention to an update on BC Redress that appeared on this site recently.  Regarding other matters:

2020-2021 National Executive Board and Elections

After the period for receiving nominations for the National Executive Board closed, we did not receive enough nominations for any of the positions on the new National Executive Board to require an election to take place.  As a result, all of the nominations received have been acclaimed to serve on the NAJC National Executive Board after our October 2, 2020 Annual General Meeting.  We would like to congratulate and introduce our incoming board:

President: Lorene Oikawa (Vancouver)

Vice President: Lynn Deutscher Kobayashi (Toronto)

Treasurer : Les Kojima (Winnipeg)

Director : Maryka Omatsu (Toronto)

Director: Susanne Tabata (Vancouver)

There will be an additional representative from the Japanese Canadian Young Leaders appointed to the board.

This does leave the board with two vacant positions (Secretary and Director).   The National Executive Board is contemplating how to fill these vacancies in due course.  Plans are underway to organize a “meet and greet” with the incoming board members via Zoom in September.

We also did not receive enough nominations to require elections to the Endowment Fund Committee at this time.

October 2, 2020 Annual General Meeting

As mentioned previously, the October 2, 2020 will be held via Zoom videoconference.  The meeting will start at 5:30 PM PDT/6:30 PM MDT/7:30 PM CDT/8:30 PM EDT and meeting registration and details will be distributed to the membership at a later date.  Note that there were no “special” motions or constitutional/bylaw revisions submitted for the meeting, so the meeting will just cover the standard annual motions and content that are normally presented at our Annual General Meetings.
