第7回カナダ移住者座談会
戦争、平和と人権について
ロシアのウクライナ侵攻に加え、10月に始まったイスラエル-パレスチナ間の紛争も停戦のめどはたっていません。長期的停戦、平和交渉はいつ実現するのでしょうか？一方、日本を含めた東アジア周辺の情勢も、いささか不穏な気配を帯びてきました。日本の新聞は、100年前に起こった朝鮮人虐殺の真相、戦後75年以上もたってからようやく話すことを始めた戦争経験者たちの話、紛争が始まったらまず最初に影響を受ける沖縄の住民は再び捨て石にされるのか、など戦争と平和、その中での人権問題、等を特集として扱っています。今回の座談会では、戦争と平和の問題、ことにカナダと日本の人権意識の相違に焦点を当てて話し合おうではありませんか？問題解決や議論を戦わせることが目的ではなく、お互いの意見を尊重しあい、ゆっくり聞きあって、その繰り返しの中から次第に相互理解と信頼感を深めて行くことを目指す試みです。多数の方のご参加をお待ちしております。

On War, Peace and Human Rights
In addition to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that began in October has no ceasefire in sight. When will a long-term ceasefire and peace negotiations be realized? Meanwhile, the situation in and around East Asia, including Japan, is becoming somewhat disturbing. Japanese newspapers are running special features on war and peace, including the truth about the Korean genocide that took place 100 years ago, the stories of war veterans who have finally begun to speak out more than 75 years after the war, and whether the residents of Okinawa, the first to be affected in the event of conflict, will again be cast into the sea.
In this roundtable discussion, we will focus on the issues of war and peace, especially the differences in human rights awareness between Canada and Japan. The purpose of the discussion is not to solve problems or to engage in debate, but to respect each other’s opinions, to listen to each other slowly, and to gradually deepen mutual understanding and trust through repetition.
