The NAJC is honouring JC artists who created a large body of meaningful works in the 20th century. In homage to Aiko Suzuki’s 1994 directory “Japanese Canadians in the Arts” we are producing a limited edition JC Artist T-Shirt recognizing over 215 Japanese Canadian professional artists who were part this publication. By honouring the past, we hope to inspire the future. The t-shirt features a graphic designed by Lotus Miyashita – the original designer of the directory – in collaboration with John Endo Greenaway. This limited edition tee is available in men’s sizes S-XXL. 20.00 includes the vendor’s percentage to the PSF.
The better news is that this is the start of a major collaborative arts’ project to acknowledge, promote and connect Japanese Canadian artists.
Lotus Miyashita, the brush stroke designer, had this to add about her design: “Japanese calligraphy. Brush strokes represent artistic expression. Movement. Nikkei heritage.” We incorporated her quote into the t-shirt design.
