Public Meeting Japanese Canadian Historic Places Project August 18, 2016

Issued by the BC Government on: August 05, 2016
Dear Stakeholders, Japanese Canadian Community of British Columbia,
The Japanese Historic Places Recognition Program Advisory Committee is pleased to invite you to participate at the Information Session to seek your proactive participation in successful implementation of the Public Nomination process of historic places of importance to the Japanese Canadian community.
As you are aware, on July 7th 2016, Naomi Yamamoto, Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness and the province’s first Japanese Canadian MLA, announced on behalf of the Provincial Government the Japanese Historic Places Recognition Program. The Program involves members of the public nominating sites for consideration from July 07 to September 09, 2016. Historic places of the highest significance will be considered for official recognition by the Government of B.C. and placed on the BC Register of Historic Places and the Canadian Register of Historic Places.
The Information Session provides opportunity for the community stakeholders to engage with the Advisory Committee members, Heritage BC staff and fellow community members to discuss the Nomination process of the historic sites that are important to the Japanese Canadian community in B.C. The Information Session is expected to address any questions and concerns community stakeholders may have about the Nomination process in order to seek a proactive community support.
