{"id":15029,"date":"2023-10-06T15:52:43","date_gmt":"2023-10-06T19:52:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/najc.ca\/?p=15029"},"modified":"2023-10-06T15:52:43","modified_gmt":"2023-10-06T19:52:43","slug":"recruitment-202310","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/najc.ca\/recruitment-202310\/","title":{"rendered":"Recruitment &#8211; Grant Writer \u2013 Independent Contractor"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>National Association of Japanese Canadians<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Grant Writer \u2013 Independent Contractor<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Role<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The National Association of Japanese Canadian\u2019s (NAJC) is seeking a skilled and experienced grant writer to work with our organization and its diverse membership.\u00a0 The Grant Writer will work collaboratively and creatively with Member Organization(s) to develop a framework to succeed in their grant writing process.<\/p>\n<p>The Grant Writer will work on a contract basis to best support each organization. This could include planning sessions, oversight of material development, and final editing of the proposal.<\/p>\n<p>The ideal candidate possesses a keen attention to detail; proven ability to multi-task and work through overlapping deadlines; sensitivity to navigating\/organizational intersections; excellent organization and prioritization skills; and a willingness to provide leadership to move the process forward to a successful conclusion.\u00a0 This individual must demonstrate the values of the NAJC with emphasis on confidentiality, professionalism and strong ethical behavior.<\/p>\n<p>The Grant Writer reports directly to the Executive Director of the National Association of Japanese Canadians.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Responsibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The successful candidate must be able to articulate the organizations\u2019 goals, vision and mission.<\/li>\n<li>Craft funding applications\/proposals in a clear and compelling manner.<\/li>\n<li>Assist the Member organizations to draft, edit, and refine grant application(s).<\/li>\n<li>Manage the entire grant writing process and ensure other stakeholders are aware and prepared for upcoming deadlines, especially relating to grants offered by the Japanese Canadian Legacies Society.<\/li>\n<li>Support compliance with all grant reporting requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Prepares any and all grant related correspondence\/materials: letters, presentations, budgets, demographic descriptions etc.<\/li>\n<li>The successful candidate is NOT responsible for submitting any final reports for successful organizations receiving any grants or funding.<\/li>\n<li>They must have a strong work ethic, excellent organizational skills and attention to detail to balance working collaboratively and independently.<\/li>\n<li>An effective grant writer will be able to multi-task, juggle multiple projects, maintain a detailed grant tracking calendar and organize all materials for any\/all grant proposals and\/or application.<\/li>\n<li>The work involves research, writing and editing of grant proposals\/applications.<\/li>\n<li>Help to strategize funding support for organizations by conducting prospect research and maintaining relationships with funders through relevant updates and communications.<\/li>\n<li>A mix of analytical research, keen writing, planning and presentation skills, and critical thinking to meet deadlines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Education\/Qualifications<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The candidate must have the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Although there is no specific field of study for grant writers, an undergraduate degree is usually necessary and often a graduate degree is preferred.<\/li>\n<li>On-line certificate or vocational diploma dedicated to grant writing.<\/li>\n<li>Knowledge &amp; experience in writing grant proposals\/applications including best practices.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of the non-profit field.<\/li>\n<li>Fluent in the English language, comprehension and excellent editing skills.<\/li>\n<li>Japanese as a second language would be an asset.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Assets<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Familiarity with the complete suite of Japanese Canadian Legacy Society\u2019s (JCLS) grants.<\/li>\n<li>Familiarity\/experience with tools that facilitate collaboration and\/or project management platforms.<\/li>\n<li>Experience in the following:\n<ul>\n<li>Non-profit and\/or Business Management<\/li>\n<li>Marketing &amp; Journalism<\/li>\n<li>Professional fundraiser<\/li>\n<li>Social Sciences<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Keen observer of the world and the current fundraising climate.<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to diversity, inclusion and accessibility.<\/li>\n<li>Proven track record of securing municipal, provincial, federal, and\/or charitable non-profit or foundation grants.<\/li>\n<li>Understanding of non-profit board governance and compliance regulations at all levels of government.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Additional Details<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is expected that the Grant Writer will work for a full-time basis until November 1, 2023 for an hourly rate that will be negotiated between the NAJC and the successful contractor.\u00a0 Additional work may be contracted after November 1, 2023 which will be driven by grant opportunities that may exist and organizational needs.<\/p>\n<p>*The successful candidate must be available to work beyond traditional office hours, including attendance at evening\/weekend board meetings and events.<\/p>\n<p>This position serves a National membership and a remote work program will be determined based on needs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>To Apply:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please send your proposal as well as your curriculum vitae to Kevin Okabe at <a href=\"mailto:ed@najc.ca\">ed@najc.ca<\/a> by Wednesday, October 11, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>National Association of Japanese Canadians Grant Writer \u2013 Independent Contractor &nbsp;
