Discover Nikkei Fest: Celebrating 20 Years of Our Global Community

Sat. February 8th, 2025 12:00 PM – 19:30 PM PST| In-Person in LA & Virtual

Celebrate the twentieth anniversary of Discover Nikkei with a day-long festival of activities honoring Nikkei family stories. Discover Nikkei is JANM’s international, community-based project that highlights Nikkei identity, culture, and history. Discover Nikkei Fest kicks off a year-long celebration of the website’s milestone anniversary with a Community Fair, Family Stories Workshops, International Nikkei Family Stories Panel Discussion (in-person and virtual), and Reception.

The best part is, you can take part in the festivities no matter where you are! The center piece of the event is our International Nikkei Family Stories Panel Discussion on February 8 at 3:30 p.m. PST, which will be streamed live via Zoom. Award-winning author Naomi Hirahara (USA) will moderate a conversation about Nikkei family stories featuring Mitch Homma (USA), Andrew Hasegawa (Australia), Harumi López Higa (Peru), Gus Hokama (Argentina), and Jorge Okubaro (Brazil). To watch the discussion virtually, register for the FREE Zoom link by February 7 at 10 a.m. PST! Simultaneous translations will be provided in English, Japanese, Spanish, and Portuguese.

If you live in Southern California, join the Discover Nikkei team in person for a full day of festivities at JANM. We’ll be hosting a community fair, family stories workshops, and a reception featuring musical performances, Nikkei foods and drinks, and more—plus, watch the panel discussion in person!
