We are thrilled to share that retired judge Maryka Omatsu has been selected as one of the 2025 Margaret Brent Women Lawyers of Achievement Award honourees, presented by the American Bar Association (ABA) Commission on Women in the Profession!
As the first Japanese Canadian judge, Maryka Omatsu has made tremendous contributions to justice, equity, and advocacy for Japanese Canadians and racialized communities. Her recognition by the ABA is not only a personal milestone but a historic moment—this year marks one of the first times two AAPI women are honoured in the same year.
The 35th Annual Margaret Brent Awards Ceremony will take place on:
🗓 Sunday, August 10, 2025
🕒 3:00–5:30 PM ET
📍 Toronto, Ontario
Let’s show our support and appreciation for Maryka’s decades of groundbreaking work in law and community activism. This is a moment for the entire Japanese Canadian community—and beyond—to celebrate!
