Join us for a presentation with Reina Brigette Takeuchi and Ken Mizokoshi, recipients of the Past Wrongs, Future Choices Scholar and Artist Award.
Reina Takeuchi explores the connection between contemporary farming practices and those enforced on Japanese Canadians during World War II, particularly on sugar beet farms in Canada. Her research highlights the resilience and adaptation required during this challenging period.
Ken Mizokoshi delves into the deeply personal stories of Japanese Canadians who were interned during World War II. Through his poignant photographs of personal belongings preserved by The Nikkei National Museum in Burnaby, B.C., Ken captures the profound sense of loss and the enduring impact of the internment on these individuals. His work invites viewers to reflect on the hardships faced by those forced to abandon their homes and belongings and to draw parallels with their own lives.
