『おかあさんの被爆ピアノ』あらすじ
1945年8月6日の朝8時15分、広島に一つの原爆が投下されました。その荒廃の中で、一台のピアノが奇跡的に無傷で残りました。この映画は、被爆したピアノを修復し、全国をトラックで回ってコンサートを行っているピアノ調律技師・矢川光則さんの活動をモデルにしています。被爆ピアノを介し彼がどんな人たちと出逢い、訪れた場所でどんな出来事が起きたのか。
ある日、被爆ピアノのコンサート先で、矢川は被爆ピアノの元の所有者の孫・菜々子と出逢う。菜々子は矢川の活動を通して被爆ピアノと広島のことを考えるようになり、やがて祖母のことも知るようになると共に、自身のルーツを探し始める。

The largest Nikkei Summer Festival in Vancouver, the Powell Street Festival, will feature a free screening of “Hiroshima Piano” on the 4th of August.

Synopsis
At 8:15 a.m. on August 6, 1945, Hiroshima witnessed the devastating impact of a single atomic bomb. Amidst the destruction, a remarkable piano emerged unharmed. Inspired by the life of Mitsunori Yagawa, a piano tuner who restored this instrument and embarked on a journey across the country, the film explores various encounters and destinations that could have shaped his path. One such encounter is with Nanako, whose grandmother originally owned the piano. Inspired by Yagawa’s work with the Hiroshima piano and reflecting on the atomic bombing, she discovers her grandmother’s story and explores her roots. The tale of peace and harmony captivates, earning the film the Peace Prize at the 2022 Los Angeles Japanese Film Festival.
