NAJC Response to Attack on the Jewish community of Pittsburgh

NAJC Statement on the Violent Attack on the Tree of Life Synagogue in Pittsburgh

October 30, 2018 – The National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) offers our heartfelt condolences to the families and loved ones of the 11 people who were killed at the Tree of Life Synagogue, and our thoughts are also with those injured, and the Jewish community in Pittsburgh and across the US and Canada. Anti-Semitism isn’t restricted to the US, and is on the increase in Canada.

‘The gunman yelled out, “All Jews must die.” We are saddened to see vicious words manifest into a violent attack,’ says NAJC President Lorene Oikawa. ‘We stand with the Jewish community and other allies, and call for an end to the hate.’

Formed in 1947, the National Association of Japanese Canadians is a non-profit incorporated community organization that represents the Japanese Canadian community, and focuses on human rights and community development.
