NAJC Condemns Attacks Against Jewish Centres in Canada & United States

NAJC Condemns the Rise of Anti-Semitism in North America

1.  Time for Action

The National Association of Japanese Canadians (NAJC) joins all Canadians who have condemned the recent bomb threats against Jewish community centres in Calgary, London, Toronto, and Vancouver. We are united in solidarity with the Jewish community across Canada, and in the United States where over 60 Jewish community centres and schools have also been targeted.

The recent threats are part of a disturbing increase in the acts of anti-Semitism in the last few months. We urge concerned Canadians to continue to speak out against Anti-Semitism and hate, and send a strong message that intolerance and racism are not acceptable in our society.

2.  Alexis Spieldenner receives the Lincoln M. Alexander Award

Congratulations are extended to Yonsei, Alexis Spieldenner of Niagara-on-the-Lake (Ontario) who has received the prestigious Lincoln M. Alexander Award for her work to end racism and for her promotion of positive social activism.
Alexis founded the North Star Freedom Festival in 2015 that celebrates – through music – the contributions made by people of African heritage.  She was inspired by the stories of her great-grandparents who were incarcerated in Tashme.
Held every second year in September, this year’s festival will feature Canadian soprano Measha Brueggergosman.
